Services

EWAKI strives to support our mission and the elderly population through a number of initiatives. Of course, there are always immediate needs like transportation, volunteers, and funding contributions, but we also seek to change the minds and hearts of our greater community through the following programs:

  • ID Program

The Tanzanian government provides some services to the elderly who receive an old age ID card. This includes facilitating care, especially for health and medication. Our ID Program helps these community members visit local offices to apply and receive their ID cards so they can get access to these essential services.

  • Community Organization

We strive to help Counsels of Elders get formed and function effectively within their communities. Not only does this help the elderly stand up for themselves and openly discuss their issues and challenges, but it also creates a formal structure with a community-facing power.

  • Transportation

The Kigoma region is beautiful but expansive, covering miles of hard-to-reach territory requiring specialized equipment and vehicles. We are in great need of volunteers, funding, and vehicle support to reach all of our elderly community members that are cut off from services due to a lack of transportation.

  • Recreation / Location Hubs

We help build, locate, and create recreation centers in every council in the Kigoma region. These become centralized hubs of activity where community events, celebrations, and more can be held. Instead of the elderly being pushed to the background, they are elevated right into the middle of a critical community service that integrates intergenerational relationship building.

This is the heart of our efforts because it changes the manner by which the elderly are treated as they become more visible to everyone else living in the area.

  • Governmental Policy Initiatives

We are currently working with our internal leadership and external resources to ensure more substantial governmental support for the elderly. We are always looking for more insight and support from fellow working professionals willing to help our community members.
