Building legacies starts with you!

EWAKI helps the treasured elderly of Kigoma with the resources, transportation, and human connection needed for a thriving lifestyle.

Who We Are

EWAKI stands for Endeleza Wazee Kigoma, a Swahili phrase meaning Empower the Elderly at Kigoma Region.

We are a Tanzanian NGO dedicated to educating and sensitizing communities to accept and care for the elderly.

This critical mission not only elevates an underserved population, but ensures the continuity of culture and education by reconnecting younger volunteers and community members with those elders who have valuable stories, insights, and lessons to share.

Who We Serve

There are more than 2 million older adults in Tanzania, but less than 4% of them receive a pension. That leaves a staggering number of hardworking and valuable human beings without essential life services as they age.

A lack of access to adequate healthcare, medication, and quality of life is a misrepresentation of the many values of Tanzania. With EWAKI, we combat these difficulties by providing everything from transportation for medical appointments to restoring the equity and dignity of older adults who should not be forgotten.

Your contribution helps in so many ways.

Why You Should Donate

EWAKI is happy to accept monetary or volunteer time donations equally. Financial contributions ensure essential services, food, housing, and transportation. Volunteering ensures our elderly receive the human connection vital to maintaining our culture and community as we adapt to future changes.

What Programs Have Succeeded

Our NGO has already hosted clinics, guest homes, meeting spaces, and recreational facilities for older adults to combat loneliness and isolation while promoting quality mental health. This intergenerational engagement serves as a hub for traditional knowledge and wisdom, helping strengthen community mission and conflict resolution.

What Goals are in the Future

EWAKI will continue to strengthen the Kigoma region by creating bridges of health and wellness between the elderly population and the greater community. This will range from securing further transportation to lobbying for legislation and policies that ensure a safer and more rewarding lifestyle for our aging brothers and sisters.

Your help is more important now than ever.

As we continue to grow and build out the foundation our team creates every day, we happily accept help in the form of funding, governmental support, business partnerships, and individual volunteer hours.
